COVID-19 hospitalizations decline as new year begins – KCRG

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Public Health on Friday reported a total of 575 COVID-19 related hospitalizations in the state. That number is down 25 from this time yesterday.

As of 10:30 a.m. Friday ICU and ventilator usage is also down. The state reported 117 patients in the ICU (down from 134 reported this time Thursday) and 63 patients on ventilators (compared to 69 on Thursday).

The state reported over the last 24 hours an additional 2,132 Iowans have tested positive for COVID-19, and the state added 7 more reported COVID-19-related deaths.

According to the state’s data this morning a total of 282,435 Iowans have tested positive for COVID-19 and 3,898 Iowans have died with the virus since the pandemic began.

This data shows COVID-19 was the underlying cause of 3,578 of the deaths, and COVID-19 was a contributing factor in 320 deaths.

A total of 241,228 Iowans have recovered from COVID-19.

According to the data the state makes available, 4,629 tests were reported over the last 24 hours. A total of 1,359,654 tests have been conducted since the pandemic began. According to this data, the positivity rate over the last 24 hours was 46.1 percent.
