NEWS. THIS IS WYFF NEWS 4 AT 6:00. DESTINY: GOOD EVENING. I’M DESTINY CHANCE. NEW CORONAVIRUS DATA TONIGHT SHOWS A CONTINUED SURGE OF CASES IN SOUTH CAROLINA. THE STATE REPORTING THE SECOND HIGHEST NEW CASE COUNT TODAY. DHEC OFFICIALS REPORTED 4500 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES TODAY. THEY SAY THEY MADE UP 30.4% OF THE TOTAL TESTS. 723 OF THOSE CASES FROM GREENVILLE COUNT 312 FROM SPARTANBURG COUNTY. DHEC ALSO REPORTED 52 ADDITION DEATHS. SIX FROM UPSTATE COUNTIES. RIGHT NOW, NEARLY 2400 SOUTH CAROLINIANS ARE HOSPITALIZED. THE INCOMING BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SAYS THEY WANT TO SHIP OUT ALL THE POSSIBLE DOSES TO THOSE WHO NEED THEM WHEN THEY GET INTO OFFICE. A SHIFT FROM THE CURRENT STRATEGY OF SAVING THOSE SECOND DOSES FOR THOSE WHO WILL NEED THEM DOWN THE LINE. >> I THINK BIG PICTURE, THE GOAL HERE IS TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE VACCINATED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE DESTINY: RIGHT NOW, SOUTH CAROLINA IS IN PHASE 1-A OF VACCINATIONS, BUT DHEC PUT OUT A MESSAGE FRIDAY AFTERNOON ENCOURAGING HOSPITALS TO START VACCINATING ADMITTED PATIENTS WHO ARE AGED 65 AND OLDER AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE COVID. IN NORTH CAROLINA, HEALTH OFFICIALS REPORTED THEIR HIGHEST NEW CASE COUNT SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN — MORE THAN 11,500 CASES. THEY SAY THE PERCENT POSITIVE WAS NEARLY 15%. HOSPITALIZATIONS HAVE DROPPED IN THE LAST TWO DAYS. THE STATE HAD NEARED 4000, BUT DROPPED TO 3871

South Carolina health officials reported 4,576 new cases of coronavirus Saturday.Officials said these new cases bring the total confirmed cases in the state to 320,105.Fifty-two confirmed deaths were reported, along with 12 probable deaths, bringing the state death toll to 5,267.DHEC officials said the new cases were found in 15,046 individual test results, for a percent positive of 30.4%.Greenville County led the state in new cases, with 723 new confirmed cases.Hospitalizations dropped slightly, to 2,383 people hospitalized with coronavirus.As of Saturday afternoon, the SC DHEC website reported the state had received 323,900 doses of coronavirus vaccine, and 91,689 doses had been administered.
